More than Lungs: How Do You Know When It's Time to Get Mental Health Help?

By Colin Butler, MS, CSCS, ACSM-GEI, EIM and CF Warrior and Dr. Sam Monson, Clinical Psychologist and CF Patient

We all have rough patches, but there’s a point where emotional distress starts to impact your day-to-day life. If you notice you’re constantly worrying about your health, can’t sleep, feel physically tense, or you are having a hard time focusing, it might be anxiety showing up.

If you’re feeling sad day-after-day, less interested in things you usually enjoy, sleeping too much or too little, or wanting to be alone all the time, those can be signs of depression. It’s never too soon to check in with a mental health professional.

Whether you’re doing well or struggling, seeking support demonstrates strength and commitment to your wellbeing. Your medical team is a great place to start. Let them know how you’re feeling, and they can support you in connecting with care.
