Purpose & Passion: Managing CF and Work
By Colin Butler, MS, CSCS, ACSM-GEI, EIM and CF WarriorThis might be one of the trickiest parts of balancing CF and work. Some days, you’ll feel focused and energized. Other days, not so much. That’s normal, and planning for that variability is key.
A few tips that might help:
- Know your energy patterns. Are mornings your best time? Afternoons? Try to schedule important work during those windows.
- Use the “spoon theory.” Imagine your energy like a set of spoons. Each task costs a spoon and you have a limited number of spoons. Spend your spoons wisely.
- Batch work when you feel good. Got a high-energy day? Get ahead on tasks so you have more wiggle room later.
- Use tools that help. Voice-to-text, scheduling apps, ergonomic gear, anything that reduces stress and strain is worth exploring.
- Be honest with yourself. Not every day will look the same, and that’s okay. Flexibility is a strength, not a weakness.
And most importantly, give yourself grace. Adjusting based on your body’s needs isn’t quitting. It’s how you keep going for the long haul.
